Tesla Roadster battery problems - What next?

When the range measurement on the Tesla Roadster goes haywire, it is usually due to the battery sheets. The on-board computer has just displayed a full range, but then the vehicle suddenly stops.

No need to panic! This does not necessarily mean that the battery cells are broken. In many cases, the individual cells are intact, but the communication between them no longer works so that the on-board computer receives an error message.

The battery of the Tesla Roadster is installed behind the seats and consists of 9 blocks (=sheets) with 69 battery cells each. It is not possible to open the sheets without destroying the cells, as they are permanently installed together. If the battery no longer works properly, it is very often due to the wires and steel rivets on the outside of the sheets that connect the cells to each other. They break due to mechanical stress or simply due to corrosion.

The very first thing we do is therefore to measure all the sheets. If the cells are in order but have contact problems, we can determine this very quickly and remedy the situation. We renew the wires and replace rusted steel rivets with robust soldering lugs. In this way, we can save the precious Roadster battery and get you and your vehicle back on the road with full range.
